Child of the 80's?
Monday, June 4, 2007
I love 80's music, and know a lot of it. I get harassed constantly at work about my love for all the 80's music. But it came to everyone's
attention that I was sadly lacking when it came to the 80's movies. So after much harassment, they came up with a list of movies I apparently
have to see. Apparently I have led an incredibly sheltered life and the creation of this list led to many moments of “How can you not have
seen that???” So I promised to start watching movies on the list… I’m going to have to get Netflix again…
Movies I Have Failed to See:
Back to the Future 1, 2, 3
Danger Salsa
Monday, May 21, 2007
First the great news - Matt and I signed a lease on a house to live in the next year! Yay! I don't have any photos of it yet, but it is a super
cool little house. Three bedrooms (one will be a guest room!), two bathrooms, and a one car garage with enough room for his motorcycle AND my
car! It has enough granite and slate to keep the geologist in me happy and close enough to a park to keep the girls happy. We move in the last
day of the month - which is also the last day of my lease. Yes that is a little stressful, but we are going to rent a U-Haul and my work said
this qualifies for a non-vacation personal day - love it!
Then after signing the lease - while still at work - I started craving salsa. Not just any salsa, but the weird totally awesome salsa we got
last month in Mexico. On the way home I stop at Fiesta (so appropriate!) and get the stuff to make it. I get to work on it at soon as I get
home because I figure the flavors have to mellow. I am kinda winging it, but used tomatoes, onion, cilantro, limes and some salt. I test it and
it is awesome! I eat a ton of it right away - so much for letting it mellow...
Yummy! Then I get to work on moving boxes to the garage. Matt and I have decided having everything at ground level on moving day might help out.
Unlike Matt - who was not helping out. In his defense he was doing finances, but I was working up a sweat. I became concerned about dehydration
since we had just discussed this on our safety day - along with alligators, snakes and spiders. I walk to the almost bare cupboard to get a
glass - proceeding to knock one down in the process. It wobbles on the edge of the shelf, smashes into the counter - shattering - then proceeds
to the floor where it slams into my foot!
It hurt like all get out. Luckily it didn't cut the skin, but I think the thick part of the glass came at a perfect angle to hurt the most. I
haven't ruled out the possibility of a hairline fracture. It's bruised up a bit and really hurts - it stopped all desire to move boxes rather
quickly. Unfortunately the injury isn't very dark since it is a foot injury and the swelling is hard to see without color differences. So I
took a picture and drew an arrow to the injury! See???
Matt helps me pick up the glass pieces and we notice that there are glass pieces all over the counter - it landed right next to the salsa. We
both look at the salsa and try to decide if it is safe. Matt is worried it might have broken glass and that is surely not Good Eats! After
picking up most of the glass I notice the cutting board that hasn't been cleaned off yet, hmmmm.....
We then decide to take the dogs to the dog park at the apartment before it gets too dark because they love playing in the dog park. We get
close and decide to let the dogs race to the park - we weren't more than 15 ft away and they always run straight in. So we let them loose and
off they go... or at least Natalie does. My dog runs the slowest I have ever seen her run - hello it's me with the foot injury, not you! (I
think she's still upset about the flea bath last night) Then we start to walk up, and the dogs run back. Suddenly Matt goes Whoa! and shoves
Natalie away from the thing she had been trying to sniff - a snake! Matt goes into action and gets the dogs away from it. I notice it's curled
up and looking pretty peeved off - picture time! I only get to snap a few before Matt gets worried because Eliza is trying to get back to
Momma. I skirt wdidely around the snake and catch up. He wants the camera to go take more pictures! I make sure the three of us are safely
back and keep an eye on him just in case he gets attacked!
This was after the snake crawled over to the side - originally he was in the middle of the park. Matt comes back and I look at the photos -
triangle head - definetely poisonous! Not good. As soon as we get back to the apartment I look up snakes of Texas. I quickly decide it is
a Cottonmouth. Matt disagrees since there is no water close... or is there? Maybe the mosquito infested drainage pond behind the apt complex
is enough. I pull up pictures on line comparing it to the pictures we took until I convince him it is indeed a Cottonmouth - so very dangerous!
Here is the "Oh myabe you are right" comparison.
All in all it was a very dangerous day! Though I bet you all can imagine what really happened to the rest of the salsa, can't you?
I couldn't help it - it was SO good! But in my defense, Matt ate most of the rest of it. If one of us goes, we both go! =)
The Weekend Drive
Sunday, May 20, 2007
Most of you that know me - which is hopefully most of you - know that I moved to Houston about a year ago. In doing so, I left behind both
family and friends to start a career after finishing my Masters degree. I also left behind my husband and one of my dogs. Eliza struck out on
the adventure with me. Now since I had no plans of actually leaving my husband, I go back to Dallas alot. In the beginning I would drive up to
Dallas one weekend and he would drive to Houston the next weekend. Well since his weekends are M/T, the days between visits would be either 3
days or 9 days. That lasted a few months and we both started doing the drive every weekend.
The drive from Houston to Dallas or vice versa is about 4.5 hours. Sometimes it can be less if the driver decides to be brave and speed for most
of it. (Only one ticket between the two of us for the year!) So that equals out to about 9 hours a week - more than a full work day! I spend
almost a full day driving every week and I have never blogged about it - and it's almost over! So here it goes, a typical drive to Dallas!
Ok, so not quite typical this weekend in the fact that I left Saturday morning - very early Saturday morning. I went to the Astros game with
coworkers Friday night, so I couldn't leave Friday afternoon like I usually do. Though it is very standard that I have the Mountain Dew with
me. That's due to the lack of sleep the night before - as usual. =)
This is me! Driving! I know, I know it is terribly unsafe to take a photo while driving. But in my defense at that hour in the morning, there
are very people on the road - unlike Friday afternoons when everyone in Houston is trying to drive to Dallas! I didn't have to avoid 45, for
once. And just so you know, I always wear my sunglasses - Always! I pretty much never go outside without them on unless it is night time. I
think I might have vampire eyes that are allergic to the sun.
This is where Eliza rides. She always sits in the front. If someone else is riding in the car with me she still wants to sit in the front seat.
Even if Matt is driving and I'm in the passenger seat - she wants to be in my lap. Some of the time she sits and looks at me. Sometimes she
looks out the window - then she twists her neck up and around and looks at me upside down. She's weird like that.
Sometimes she likes to put her paw on my leg. I like it when she does that. =)
Pedro pretty much just lays there in his travel cage. He really doesn't do much. One time I had to hit the brakes and and Eliza kinda fell off
the seat and sorta half fell in Pedro's cage. That was probably the most excitement he's had in all the car rides combined. I did get him Apple
Dippers at McDonalds this time because he missed breakfast.
Now Natalie is not normally with me on these trips since she is usually with Matt. But Natalie has stayed with me off and on over the past two
weeks. Natalie usually sleeps on car trips or stares out the window. She usually looks pretty bored, but sometimes she looks out the window
with a smile on he face. This was one of those times - I like that because she looks like she is having fun - and I like happy Natalie.
Well there you have it, you sorta shared the experience with me. If you want the true experience though, you have two options. One - come visit
me! Matt and I will have a spare bedroom in 2 weeks and you are welcome to come - if I know you. If you are one of those random people you
probably aren't welcome... sorry! So you random people and the people who don't want to visit have a second option. Read this blog for 4.5 hours.
While you are reading it, put some music on real loud and sing along with it. Throw about $60 at a gas station and drink way too much Mountain
Dew. That should give you the bulk of the experience! Have fun!
Back to Normal? Not Quite Yet...
Sunday, May 13, 2007
Things are slowly returning back to normal for me. I've gotten one best friend successfully married off to a guy I actually like. The other
best friend (yes I can have more than one - back off!) is moving to Colorado at the end of the week. The final best friend a.k.a. the Husband
is planning on moving down here June 2nd and had a job interview this past Thursday. Yes things are moving along quite nicely, but it has
kept me pretty busy and unable to blog as often as I would like. My new goal is to get back in the groove of things and start updating more
like I used to. I might have to cut back on pictures in every blog to keep in the groove, but I promise things will return back to normal!
But for now, let me update you on the past 3/4 weeks since the last update.
Camping
When I got back from the Central Texas Field trip I wanted to take Matt back there. Matt has already been to Enchanted Rock and Inks Lake
with me, but I wanted to take him specifically for the food! I knew he would like the German food in Fredericksburg and love Cooper's BBQ,
so we made plans to go the weekend between the bachelorette party and the wedding. In the end I decided since my whole goal was to eat
local food, we didn't need most of our camping gear except the tent and sleeping stuff. So much easier to pack!
We got to Inks Lake Saturday mid-morning and the campsite was full. Not good... we ended up staying down the street at a campground that was
nowhere near as nice, then paying to go back to Inks Lake to fish and such. In my defense, it has never been anywhere near full all the times
we have been there before so I didn't think booking ahead was that important. Even more in my defense they had a sign up in the lobby that
said no pre-registration available between this date and that date - including the day we were there... so no harassing me!
Anyhow, we fished for awhile - I spent more time getting lures stuck and then stabbing myself with a hook trying to put the new one on. =)
Matt caught a little Petey, and we held on to him. His fate depending on whether or not we could catch more - by himself he was a small
appetizer, but with more fish he would be part of a fish fry! Here he is, oblivious to his possibly impeding doom. Of course he was a bit
camera shy and swam under the rock every time I tried to take his picture.
Eventually we gave up on the fishing to take the girls swimming. We had originally tied them up at a tree, but being that close to water
and not being able to get in was torture. For once my dog was being the better dog as Natalie whined and barked at the water that was
merely 3 feet away. We finally decide she would be less tortured in the car and Eliza joined her shortly thereafter, apparently I moved
outside of her comfort zone and she started barking to try to get me to come back. Thus the little Petey was freed from the line with a
gentle warning not to take food from strangers.
We loaded up the fishing gear and headed to the Devil's Watering Hole – a new spot I had discovered on the field trip. We led the girls
down to the watering hole and while we were walking around a narrow corner, Eliza slipped in (or jumped - who knows really?) and then tried
to get back out. But the slick granite had no traction for wet claws. Before she could panic, I pulled her up, but then Natalie jumped in
and couldn't get out. We decided that this was probably not the best spot and decided to head upstream where the girls could get in and out
without risking injury. We finally found a spot with a small river that had a ton of shallow and deeper spots for the girls to play in. It
was like an amusement park for dogs! Without us even throwing anything the girls took off and chased each other all over the place. They
found a few spots that were too hard to climb out of, but managed to drag themselves out of the water most of the time - though it looked
quite painful at times...
They had a blast and wore themselves out pretty fast. Matt and I were both soaked from the numerous times the would get out of the water
soaking wet and wait to shake until standing next to one of us – thanks! We loaded them back up in the car and drove to Fredericksburg for
dinner. The slept most of the way there – though we parked where they could see us and sat outside on a patio, so Natalie spent most of the
time watching people walk by.
Then on the way out of town, we stopped in Llano again. I introduced Matt to the granite factory and Matt realized that any house he wants
to be custom made will have to have a ton of granite. Though, in my defense, he was just as in love with some of it as I was. Then we drove
to the Llanite outcrop to get a bigger piece of Llanite than the last trip. We came prepared with a sledgehammer this time! I told Matt to
park on the side of the road and he started talking about how dangerous that way and how often do we do that on geology trips? Apparently
he doesn’t realize that we do that all the time – even if there is no shoulder. Actually it’s probably a good thing he didn’t know how
dangerous outcrops can be… better for his piece of mind.
Anyhow we walked up to the outcrop while I explained why it’s so cool. Turns out that someone had been at the outcrop since my last visit
and had left behind a sizeable chunk sitting on the ground. That was much easier than breaking more pieces with a sledgehammer, so I took
that instead! Yay!
Before heading back to Houston, we stopped at Cooper’s BBQ. I had told Matt all about it all week and had prepared him that there might be
a wait – especially on a Sunday at lunchtime. We got there a bit after 11 in hopes to beat the lunch crowd. There were already a lot of
people lined up, but after we got there the real lunch crowd hit. Yay! I picked out the meat and he wanted to try the potato salad. We got
the beans and sat down – he loved it. Part of why it is so great is the sauce – this heavenly vinegary concoction! We ate about half of what
we ordered, and wrapped the rest up (dinner that night!). Matt agreed that the food was worth the trip and is already plotting on how to get
his parents there to try it. =)

Wedding
Theresa got married! I of course was the best Maid of Honor ever! I took the Friday before the wedding off to help with any last minute
details. Most of the activities on Friday had to do with making the bouquets and other flower arraignments.
The rehearsal went pretty well – there were 10 bridesmaids and groomsmen, so it was quite a full wedding party. I didn’t know most of the
other attendants, but everyone was super friendly – especially since most of us were worried about doing something wrong in the catholic
ceremony. Luckily we had one or two bridesmaids that were Catholic, so we managed to pull it off without screwing anything up.
The day of the wedding all of the girls we at Theresa’s house getting ready – the hair stylists came to us. A couple of the maids got spray
on make-up done because it is supposed to last so much longer. I didn’t really want to spend that much money on make-up, but I did have my
make-up done. I had done the spray tan before the wedding so I looked nice in my all black dress. Therefore my make-up was not dark enough.
Martin, the stylist, put on way more make-up than I usually wear, but it looked really good. (At least he didn’t put fake eyelashes on me… I
won’t mention who had them…. *cough* *cough* Brittney! *cough*)
The wedding went great! The priest made sure to mention that I should straighten her dress whenever I felt the need, not to worry about doing
it too much. I had already been warned about this by the wedding planner, so I was up and down several times to fix the dress. Maybe if they
hadn’t kept moving all over the place I wouldn’t have had too… =/ Then since Josh and Theresa were both having problems coughing, I snuck a
bottle of water up to Josh since all of the groomsmen were too scared to get up.
I also helped save the day after we noticed that Theresa’s bouquet (nicknamed Goliath) left red streaks on the front of her dress! Luckily
someone else thought that baby wipes might get it out. I carefully approached the very unhappy Bride and told her I would just try a little
bit and see if it worked. It did! All of the red came off the front of the dress and I said I would carry the bouquet for the rest of the
picture taking.
The reception finally came and that meant I could take my incredibly high heels off. A bunch of the other bridesmaids were so jealous of my
flip flops – I told them barefoot was also an option! =) I was nervous about my speech that I wrote that morning – I had somewhat forgotten
that I was supposed to give one. I told the crowd that I had been referring to myself as the Best MOH ever the whole time, then confessed I
forgot the speech until last night. I told everyone I had written it that morning and I was going to read it off the paper instead of trying
to wing it! People laughed at the times I hoped they would and clapped for me in the end. *whew* With my MOH duties safely over it was time
to enjoy the party! We stayed for awhile after the bride and groom left, then finally gave up when it finally sunk in how tired most of us
were. It was certainly a fun filled day!
Much more photos from the wedding Here!
House Hunting
The House Hunting is not going so well. We told one guy we would definitely take the house the day he showed it to us. He was certainly
excited about us wanting it, but then decided to go with a previous applicant that had changed their minds that night. I was a bit upset
about that, but life goes on. Then we found another house with a big back yard and a garage living area. The garage “apartment” made up for
the house being a bit small, so we offered on it. We submitted applications that got quickly accepted, then put down our deposit. Three days
before we were to get the keys, Matt gets a phone call that there has been some misunderstanding and dogs are not allowed in the house.
What??? We had talked about the dogs the whole time – they were on the application that got approved. Oh we were both furious. They still h
aven’t given us our application fee back, but we are going to get that back. It’s the principle of the matter at this point.
I found another house I like, but they want too much for it. We offered our max and the owners loved our application, but they just want us
to come up on our offer. We haven’t budged yet, but I am starting to soften. It seems like every place we find is either a bit too ghetto,
won’t allow dogs or is already rented out. I am not quite to the panic stage, but I am getting nervous. I do have a little under three weeks
left to find a place, but we really wanted to find a place with time to move slowly. *sigh* I’m not as optimistic as I used to be…
The Guilt Has Set In
Tuesday, April 17, 2007
I could explain away my lack of updates recently (two months) due to a complete and utter lack of time and being very busy – but that
would just waste more time. I have to alleviate some of these guilty feelings and I think the only way to do that is to post some. Let
me tell you what has gone on since the last time I posted.
Random St Patrick’s Day Sign
I don’t think this one even needs a response… But considering the day it was slightly funny although highly irreverent!
Matt and His Dad Flew in a B17 Bomber
Matt kept seeing old planes flying over the St. Patrick’s day parade and I finally told him that his dad had mentioned there were WWII
planes in town giving rides. Giving = charging hefty sum in the name of a donation. He immediately wanted to go. I told him that his dad
really wanted to go to. Matt asked if I wanted to go and I told him that his dad would enjoy it a lot more than I would – and he should
take him. He called his dad all excited and told him he was going up in a B17 bomber.
They had to wait until a few days later to get an available seat. I was asked multiple times if I was ok with it and I assured him I
was – it was an opportunity that you don’t get every day. Plus seeing his dad’s face all lit up in some of the videos was worth every
cent! His dad even made a website just to share the photos and videos to all of his old Navy friends – how cute is that???
Went on a Cruise!
Mom, Brittney, Amanda and I went on a four day cruise from Galveston to Cozumel. It was so much fun! We all had a ton of fun and it was
really neat to see Mexico without having to cross the Rio Grande in a canoe. I was pretty much the only one who didn’t get any crazy tan
lines thanks to my spf 45 sunscreen and inability to lay out in the sun for long periods at a time – I find it quite boring. But luckily
for me there was plenty on the ship to keep us busy – though I would not recommend trying yoga for the first time on a rocking ship –
half the class kept falling. Even though I think mom liked it – I’ve become quite addicted to the yoga lately, I even signed up for
classes at work. Anyways, I will try to post more of the pictures later, but here is a few to give you an idea of the fun times! =)
We Won the Stair Climbing!
It was a non-competitive race until the last two weeks when another team put the heat on us. Luckily we had enough of a head start and
I started climbing 100 flights a day to hold them off – by a measly 300 meters. All total we climbed almost 21 km of stairs – we kicked
butt! I beat Everest in the last week and almost climbed a total of 10 km myself. 32,840 ft! We ended up with a gift card to Walmart that equaled
out to about 2 cents per flight of stairs climbed and a Stair Climbing Champions plaque I have to keep hidden from Gary so he doesn’t
alter it…
I even made a mini Mt Everest for the last day of climbing. It required 4 batches of rice krispy treats, but everyone loved it! I even
bought little figurines that could climb it – too bad all they had was miniature wrestlers… =)
Brittney’s Addicted to Polka Dots
And now she’s gotten me to love them as well. And don’t knock the picture; it’s hard to take a picture of yourself including your shirt.
Besides you all know what my head looks like!
Theresa’s Bachelorette Party
What happens at Bachelorette Parties usually isn't shared, but I just have to show off the cute shirts I made. I made them to look like
‘B’ horror movie – Bridezilla. I had everyone give me their characters name to look like credits on the back – why yes I am the Oily
Geologist! Brittney’s name is a whole other story… =)
We Need a House
Yes, Matt’s time in Dallas is almost up! My lease is up on my apartment at the end of May so we have started looking for a house to
rent in the Heights area of Houston. Unfortunately, everything is available now and we aren’t ready quite yet. I will be happy to move
as of May first, but no sooner. Next week I will put much more effort into finding a place to live. These are the kind of houses we are
looking at – though this especially cute house would not allow pets – kinda a problem.
The Shoe Dyeing Project
Theresa didn’t pick out of shoes for us for her wedding, but gave us guidelines for what our shoes should look like. I didn’t have
anything that qualified, so I had to buy shoes, which meant shoe shopping – my least favorite shopping ever. I couldn’t find any
that qualified that fit me – Brittney found the most adorable ever in the first store. Jerk.
My second round I found a pair of white shoes that qualified except for the fact they were white and not black. I walked around the
store wondering if I could dye them. I tried on other shoes, but nothing made me happy. I finally decided I could probably dye them.
Then when I go back and get them realize they say “Dyeable” on the side of the box… haha yeah I’m smart!
I call and find out to get them dyed will cost $25 – the shoes were only $22! I decide that coloring them with a sharpie would be
cheaper! I decide to brave dyeing them myself> I go buy gloves, box to put them in and black dye – two packs. I was extremely nervous
about the whole ordeal but figured if I screwed it up, they can always dye them darker black, right? Well they turned out great and I
am so proud of myself! There a few spots the dye didn’t take – I’m guessing there was maybe glue on the fabric? Anyhow, sharpie will
take care of those quite well. Wedding is only a week and a half away, but I am ready with my totally awesome shoes – though they might
turn my feet black if it rains… Pray for sunshine!
I Think That’s All…
I’m sure I will think of other stuff later, but at least you are all caught up! Matt and I are going camping this weekend in the Hill
Country so I can take him to Cooper’s Brothers BBQ. There will also be fishing and hiking involved. We’re both pretty excited – there
will probably be pictures from that. Then Theresa’s wedding is the next weekend and once I am done with my Maid of Honor duties, I should
have a lot of fun. Until then I will be nervously trying to not screw up… And just so you know, I am the Best Maid of Honor ever! =)
I will try not to keep you all waiting so long between updates next time. It should be better once I have a place lined up to move in
to – until then I use most of my free time surfing Craigslist or driving around the Heights looking at For Rent signs – wish me luck!
2 Weeks Is Not That Long
Tuesday, March 13, 2007
So it's been awhile since I updated it. I got busy, and then I got behind, and then I got guilty... but then I got to go on a geology field
trip and I got over the guilt. But now I am back and have to fill you in on what has been going on since my last blog when I was upset
about someone flashing their headlights at me. That happened again this morning too - I decided to take matters into my own hands and aim
the lights, but when I looked up in the owner's manual it simply said to take it to the dealer. I tried doing something to the lights, but
only managed to get my hands dirty.
First things first, Matt and I had our third anniversary! That's right a whole three years together and going strong. For our anniversary
we both thought alike on gifts - I bought him a telescoping fishing pole like mine and he bought me a tacklebox-bakpack. I am thinking that
fishing is in our near future - good thing since we just bought those licenses. OUr car also decided to get in on the gift giving and gave
us a mysterious oil leak. Matt spent almost two whole days at the dealership in Houston trying to get it fixed. That pretty much killed
the anniversary plans we had - go to Fogo de Chao with the gift certificate Brittney got us - but it is hopefully just rescheduled and not
cancelled.
Then Matt took Eliza back to Dallas with him when he left on Tuesday because I was going on a field trip. This was easier than boarding her
over the weekend... or so I thought. That little dog of mine might drive me crazy, but I am so lonely without her. I would wake up in the
morning and hit snooze, then go to love on her like usual - she wasn't there. I would be cutting up some food and think of how much she
would like a piece and then realize she's not there. Matt was no help - he would call and ask what Eliza was up to - knowing full well she
wasn't there! I honestly don't know who was more excited to see the other - me or Eliza - I bet it was a close call.
Then work stuff. I just started with a new group at the beginning of the February. I got settled in and into the groove of things. Then my
new mentor tells me he is leaving. I get bummed that he is moving to a new group, but they will have someone replace him. So I ask where he
is going - to my surprise, he's not leaving the group, he's leaving the company! =/ So there is no one to replace him because it is not
a planned thing. I was stressed and bummed about it for a few days, but then Ian became my new mentor and that is great, because I already
know Ian and I really like Ian. I'm not even bummed about the fact he took this whole week off because his kids are on spring break. So
while it was a slightly traumatic experience, it will work out for the best in the end.
Then the fishing experiences. I actually managed to get my sister - who won't eat fish - to go fishing with me the other weekend. At first
she was just going to sit there while I fished, but then decided to buy a license and fish with me. The only condition was that I had to
put the worm on the hook. I almost lost her completely when I cut a worm in half, but she stuck it out! =) Anyhow, we get to Lake Lavon -
I bought a lake map and planned where I was going ahead of time. I was going to fish near the power plant because the fish like the warm
water. Sunday was going to be too cold, so I got up early Saturday to go. Well apparently that cold front hit a bit early... we get to the
spot and it is cold. The wind is blowing so hard there are whitecaps on the lake. I start to walk down to the spot and realize if we try to
cast in this direction we will only be hooking ourselves. We go around the other side, and if we sit down we are mostly out of the wind.
But the fish aren't biting. Heather was pretty quick on the casting and such, but the fish we not interested. Big bummer.
And on to the field trip this weekend. I took a bunch of pictures, so I am just going to put the story of the weekend on there. Short
version of the weekend was that Brittney, Jason and I went on the Houston Geological Society NeoGeo's Field Trip. NeoGeo means new geologists,
so those of us that have less than 5 years work experience. That was a bit of a misnomer though because there were IT people and engineers
there as well. Because of that, the geology was not as in depth - especially since I have been to the area on other field trips. But either
way I was outside looking at rocks, so it really couldn't be beat either way. The three of us had a good time and it only could have been
better if Matt was there - though Brittney would have had to sleep on the motel floor then... =)
As for the stair climbing challenge - I am on schedule to climb Mt. Everest on my own. I am actually a few hundred feet ahead of schedule.
My top score to date was a whooping 80 flights of stairs in one day. Yay! My team beat Mt. Everest collectively as a group last week. Next
week they will have to make a new chart because we will be higher than it goes. We are climbing those stairs like mad people. =)
Maybe Matt is Right...
Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Matt is always harassing me about my headlights. My headlights give me enough grief as it is with all the times they burn out - much faster
than usual in my opinion. But Matt is always telling me my headlights are too bright. Originally we thought maybe the lights that came with
the CR-V were the fancy bright ones. When those quickly burned out, I bought the usual halogen lights. I wanted the cool blue lights it
came with, but Matt was against that idea.
Matt still thought my lights were too bright. Then he thought that maybe they were aimed too high. I had no idea how to reaim my headlights,
so I figured he was just crazy. Then one day when I was once again changing my light bulbs, I looked in the manual and saw that it
recommended adjusting the 'aim' lights if you were towing something. So he's not crazy, but still didn't mess with it.
Then we thought maybe I wasn't buying the right kind of headlights since they keep burnong out so fast. Checked that - I was buying the
right ones (it's amazing how people have no faith in me!). I've gotten used to my lights being a bit bright and I am generally really good
about staying back from people so I don't blind them - unless they cut me off and then I just stay where I am. You can usually see your
lights in the car in front of you if you are too close - well I can anyhow.
But then today I am driving home from bowling, with a quick run by the bank. I am headed home when I pull up to a stoplight to turn left. I
am facing another car who wants to turn left the other way. As soon as I stop, he turns his brights on - or so I thought. It was so bright!
They switch back to normal and I think maybe I have left my headlights off. I check, and they are on. So now maybe I think he is just
weird. Then he turns them on again. I wait until he turns them off again and then I flash my real brights at him to let him know that I am
not a moron. He flashes his brights at me again!!! Jerk! I finally get my turn arrow and turn. Now I have spots all in front of my eyes and
a nice headache coming on. The guy was only across the intersection from me, so it was really bright! Why do people in cars have to be such
jerks?
Matt if you think of it, fix my headlights please...
Done with the Steps!
Tuesday, February 27, 2007
I know you guys were wondering where I was. Some of you probably even thought that I was taken out by salmonella poisoning. It's ok people,
I threw away my Peter Pan and bought some JIF. Choosy moms choose JIF you know. My granmother has apparently decided she is not throwing
away her peanut butter. She's already eaten half the jar and doesn't think she will get sick. I feel the same way, but was talking into
chunking it by my hubby. At least he cares! =)
It was a hectic weekend. I drove back to Dallas on Friday night. Then Saturday we had tickets to a Dave Ramsey event. We had invited Oscar
and Brittney, so Matt was in charge of all the plans. Matt made a detailed itenerary of what time we would get up, what time we would leave,
what time we would get to breakfast, leave breakfast, get to his parent's and then leave parent's, then finally what time we would get there.
Amazingly we actually managed to stick to the schedule! It was impressive for the four of us - more so for a few of us...
Well the talk was good - it was a financial seminar, while most of it was for getting out of debt, the whole thing was entertaining and good
common sense advice. Which is sadly lacking in some people or they wouldn't be $100's of thousands of dollars in debt. I can understand
if you are a doctor or lawyer and have student loans, but it is absolutely amazing how much credit card debt people can rack up. CHEETAH!!!
(If you were there you would understand that last part!)
After it was over, we went back to his parent's house where I had left my dog. I was planning on driving back to Houston that night because
I had to go pick up my parent's in Galveston early the next morning. I was way behind on steps so I spent about 30 minutes walking in circles
around their house. When I finally got back to HOuston at 11pm, I spent another 30 minutes on the treadmill so I wouldn't let my team down.
It was the last two days of the steps and there was no way I was going to not finish it off well. My new fancy pedometer doesn't seem to
store the history though so my fancy graph won't be finished. Just rest easy knowing that I only fell below 10,000 a single solitary day and
I feel really bad about it. I am going to keep wearing it though and keep track of my steps. Go me! =)
Anyhow, I got in bed late and my parents called me at 7 the next morning. I jumped in the car to go rescue them. After stumbling around
half asleep, I Load Eliza in the car and head south. Stupid freeway was closed, but luckily their is no traffic at 7AM!!! After I picked
them up I guilted them into buying me Waffle House. Then we hung out at my apartment and I made dad his birthday present - Cinnamon Rolls.
He is so esay to please sometimes. He even let me have some - which is probably just because he was full of good food from the crusie. The
two of them were looking up new cruises online while I baked - they are addicted! Just look at how tan these two are:
And I fixed my broken Kitchen-Aid in the most brilliant way. It had tipped over on it's side one time in my car and leaked oil. Then I
came to the sad discvoery that the arm that locks the bowl up no longer worked. It might stay up, but usually would fall in the midst of
mixing. I fixed it for a while by jamming a small bowl under the mixing bowl and problem solved. But recently the bowl has been popping off
the arms and causing panic and spilled flour several times. So I remedied the solution with a new solution - I am so smart!
And by the way, my team is doing so good on the stair climbing challenge, I am still on track for Everest even though it has been hard this
week since I am in training. *sigh* Work is so hard! =)
Mardi Gras Galveston
Wednesday, February 22, 2007
I have been hearing about Mardi Gras Galveston for quite some time on the radio. The big party was last weekend, but when I dropped my
parents off for their cruise, I could see all the festival stuff and thought it might be fun to go on Fat Tuesday. I wasn't sure what
was going on so I looked online and there was a parade starting at 6:30. It would be tight, but we could make it if I came home right
after work and left for Galveston shortly after. Thanks to Cracker Barrel, that didn't work out as planned.
Matt and I went to Cracker Barrell for lunch. We ordered normal food stuff - I had the meatloaf sandwich and he got the Chile Jack
Chicken with mashed potatoes, dumplings and *turnip greens* - I said gross when he ordered the last one, but he was convinced it would
be good. 40 minutes later we still had no food - apparently they lost our order. They finally came and apologized, retook our order and
brought us some bread. We were ticked, but what do you do? Food finally gets there and Matt tries his turnip greens - the look on his
face was priceless. I am amazed he managed to swallow it. He kept trying to get me to try it after sayign how disgusting they were but
I said No thanks! I did relent and smell them - which was quite possibly the worst smelling food substance ever. For all of our
waiting they didn't charge us for the tea and offered us free dessert - woo hoo. I didn't have time for dessert, we had already been
there over an hour. So we left. (We paid!)
This put me back at work late, so I stayed late and we didn't get on the road until 5:20. Traffic was a nightmare trying to get to
Galveston. It was almost 7 by the time we arrived and I was so bummed that the parade was over. Everyone was leaving and I wasn't
going to get any beads for me or Brittney. But then I heard a magical sound - a band! The parade was still going! Yay! We find a spot
to watch and within a few minutes I have a ton of beads. This is when we realize how dangerous parades are. Those people whip those
beads through the air with some force! I got hit in the head a few times and you could hear them hitting poles. Quite a liability I
would imagine. Matt refuesd to wear them, so I got quite a few beads in short order.
The parade had the usual high school bands and floats.
It had some unusual floats.
The last thing were these three huge trucks. I loved them (and wanted them!) One of the trucks had a license plate that said "TALL"
and that was all it really needed to say. The first truck was the best though. It says HRT - Hummer Recovery Team - and I truly believe
that it might be able to rescue a Hummer in need...
After the parade we went and ate seafood on the wharf. We sat out on the patio so we could see the harbor/dry dock and any ships that
happened to be passing by. The patio was right next to the Elissa - the tall ship and there were a bunch of birds tucked in for the
night. They would make crazy noises every now and then - possibly when we were using the flash on our camera? (Though this next picture
was flash-free - as were all of the beads in case you were wondering!)
It was a fun night, even if we were up too late and I fell asleep on the way home - luckily Matt was the one driving. I think he had
fun too, so all in all a success!
The only bad news I have is that I lost something at bowling and had to run to Academy to replace it. Stupid pedometer! I have to guess
on my totals for the last three days, which I think I can sorta remember. Then I had to pay $18 for the new one - lucky thing I just
won $50 in the contest or I might not have paid the big bucks for a pedometer that has a memory in it. The clip on this one looks
more substantial so hopefully I won't lose it - though I think about a quarter of the participants have lost/killed theirs, so I don't
feel too bad.
Peanut Butter Scare
Sunday, February 18, 2007
The gist of the story is that Peter Pan peanut butter is recalling peanut butter left and right due to Salmonella contamintaion.
Wait, isn't that the kind of peanut butter I have? Oh no!
But it's only the peanut butter from a certain plant - though it could be any kind of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butters. So all
you have to do is look at the top of the lid and if the first four digits aren't 2111, you are ok. What are the digits on my peanut
butter?
Crap! But after talking to Matt I think just about everybody who has Peter Pan peanut butter needs to check it. Matt's PB at work is the
2111. His coworkers that have jars are all 2111. I think we have found one jar that isn't 2111. I've already eaten part of it and no
ill effects, but Matt told me to throw it away. I will but only because I have no more sick days left to take. It feels so wrong to
throw away a perfectly good jar of peanut butter. I doubt that there is anything wrong with it and I am so not getting my $3.50 back.
Jerks...
Free Dog to Good Home

All I said to her when I walked in was: I don't even have to tell you how much trouble you are in...
Happy V-Day!
Wednesday, February 14, 2007
I've got quite an update today - alot can happen in 2 days apparently. First of all, I'm sick again - an unexpected V-Day gift from
-Matt. Thanks Honey! It's just a head cold, but is the mother of all head colds! I really can't breath all that well and I have to
blow my nose all the time! I'm trying to be a good co-worker and go out in the hall. I bet they wish I would just go home, but with
only one sick day remaining, that is not going to happen. So I'm basically like the living dead. Fun! I also haven't been sleeping
well - I keep waking up at 1 am, then only sleeping for 5-10 minutes at a time until 5:30 - it really is quite miserable.
Yesterday Matt played with the doggies while I was at work. He took them over to the small park for dogs (I can't call it a dog park,
because that implies grandeur it does not have) and brought the camera along. The pictures make it obvious how much fun the girls had:
Yes that is Natalie slobber everywhere - she has a foaming problem sometimes. No, she is not rabid. Eliza has a bit of Natalie slobber
on her ear:
As Matt is showing me these pictures he tells me there is a picture I am not going to like. So I'm thinking it's probably one of Eliza
running away into the parking lot or Natalie attacking Eliza or Eliza trying to escape under the fence. But no, it is worse than
anything I was imagining:
A bloodsucking tick!! I immediately freak out and grill Matt about the tick and whether or not he got the head. He has no idea why that
is even important. He tells me the picture is from the parking lot where he threw it, so I make him go down and look. The picture makes
it impossible to tell - it's from the perfectly worse angle. Plus all those little legs just freak me out. He can't find the tick - which
could mean it crawled away, therefore head was still attached to body. But "could" is not good enough for me. I go check out Eliza and
the bite is all red and swollen. Matt and I drag her in the bathroom for triage, where I clean it with alcohol and check for any
reamining tick parts. She is not thrilled about the whole thing, but we get it done. (Today the spot is normal looking, so I have calmed
down a bit!)
Enough with the gross stuff. Woke up this morning and got a shower as usual. I go to get a Q-Tip out of the bathroom drawer (as I do
after every shower - I am spastic about ear gunk!) and there is a gold bag in the drawer. Now this is Matt's drawer, but the Q-Tips
are in Matt's drawer - and have been since I deemed it Matt's drawer. I figure he wanted me to find it! (Later find out that wasn't the
case, but whatever!) It's by Godiva chocolate!!! I make life easy on Matt and tell him what to get me. 1 box of Godiva chocolates. Every
year. It hasn't changed since he surprised me with the first one, and will likely never change. I think this makes me an excellent wife,
it takes all the stress out of gift giving. Give me this and I am happy:
Too bad I have a stuffed up nose. I tried to eat one piece - a starter piece, mostly just pure chocolate. I can't taste it! I know it's
chocolate, but the flavor is so faint and bland. I am sooo not happy. I close the box up. It will just have to wait until I can smell
again. Matt does not have the same problem and massacres about 5 pieces. =(
The dogs also got me a present. We will have to see if this or the chocolates last longer. I can make that chocolate last a long time, I
know how to savor the good stuff. The label on this plant has some many requirements and restrictions we doubt it will live very long
at all. But it sure is pretty!
I also made cookies today for my work and bowling groups - since it is Valentine's day. They were mostly heart shaped and such, but I
made a few T-Rex's to go along. I also made on "Triceratops". I think every time I make cookies now I will have to make a "Triceratops"
because every time I even look at that cutter it makes me laugh. Oh Brittney, you are so silly! Anyhow, Matt decided to help me make
cookies. I was a bit wary about this, but he convinced me he could handle it - or he wouldn't take no for an answer. So my first
instructions are don't rip the dough - he goes "uh-oh" and turns around with a guilty look on his face is about 10 seconds - yup, the
dough is ripped in half. I take the rolling pin back after that. But he again demands to help with the scraps. He tries to roll them
out but I fail to mention that dough tends to stick to the pin. He gives up on that, and makes a free-form cookie instead. Apparently
it is supposed to be me, or his love for me, or something like that...
Other than that, I am doing good at my stair climbing - a bit ahead of schedule actually. Though yesterday was the first time I failed
to make 10,000 steps. It was rather disappointing. I tried, but I just felt so ill yesterday and the stupid pedometer didn't seem to
be reading every step. I gave up. I mean my team just won for the week this past week, so we weren't elligible for the upcoming week
anyhow. I hope everyone can forgive me.
And last but not least, my Mother-in-law had a birthday yesterday as well! Her birthday is the day before V-Day and my nephew-in-law is
the day after. Accorind to her, neither one of them is sweet enough to have the actual day. I would never say that because it might
get me disowned! Anyhow, I get to see all the in-laws this weekend at my nephew's party. It's been a while since I've seen them all, so
I am looking forward to it - Yes I actually love my in-laws. And if you made them swear to tell the truth, they might admit to loving
me too!
Climbing Mt. Everest in 8 Weeks!
Monday, February 12, 2007
I am going to climb Mt. Everest in 8 weeks! Ok, not the actual mountain 8 weeks from now. Climbing the equivalent of Mt. Everest in
an eight week span. Let me explain. As I mentioned before my work group is doing a "walk-a-thon" that encourages you to walk at least
10,000 steps a day. (See graph below) Well I moved to a new group and they decided to do a healthy competition too. Stair climbing!
We have teams of 4 and we can only count the stairs we climb at work - an attempt to point out how much healthier it would be to take
the stairs instead of the elevator. The group is on the 10th floor and no one is allowed to enter the staircase from the first floor.
So we have to take the elevator to the second floor and climb from there. SOmebody made a spreadsheet where you can put in number of
stairs and where (garage or building) and it calculates the feet you have climbed.
To make the contest interesting to a bunch of geology nerds, they made a chart with a mountain from each continent - with Mt. Everest
obviously being the tallest. I generally do better for my health if I challenge myself, not others. So I decided to challenge myself
to climb the tallest of the tall! Part of the spreadsheet showed that if each team member climbs 15 flights, then the team would reach
Everest. 60 flights alone? I can so do that!
I made my own spreadsheet that has a place to type in stairs as I do them, then divided out the elevation by days so I can keep track
of my steps and make sure I get them all. Thanks to the cruise I am going on, I had to divide it by 38 days instead of 40. It equals
out to about 760 feet a day. Today was a bit rough thanks to the nice head cold Matt gave me, but I managed to do it anyway! I even
got an extra 20' or so in just in case I need some extra steps one day.
By the end of the 10,000 steps and climbing Mt. Everest I am going to have some nice legs. Oh yeah that's about as exciting as climbing
the tallest mountain in the world! =) I will put the chart of stairs below the chart of steps. The trail for Everest is in black, my
trail is in pink. Wish me luck! (Though my steps chart is showing a disturbing trend...)
The Grooming!
MSaturday, February 12, 2007
Matt and I have two dogs: Eliza and Natalie. Since Natalie lives with Matt most of the time, I'm sure you read alot more about Eliza
than Natalie. Well Natalie has something going for her that Eliza doesn't. Natalie is a lab (mostly) and lab hair has a set length. I
am pretty sure that if I didn't get Eliza groomed her hair would just keep on growing and growing. It has been almost a year since I
got her groomed last and she was getting very shaggy. But my dog has issues with being groomed.
When we first got her, she was trimmed fairly short all over. We let her hair grow out until she looked like an old man with wispy
hairs going everywhere. Not knowing where else to go, I took her to Petsmart. I told the guy that I really liked her eyebrows and
beard, but the rest could go. Basically a Schnauzer cut on the face and trim the rest. About an hour later I get a phone call saying
that they are done, but she wouldn't let them trim her face - apparently she kept trying to bite them (which I find hard to believe -
and if she was it wasn't hard biting). I go get her. They have turned my baby into a lion! Not only is her whole head still shaggy,
her tail is still shaggy! Who looks at that and thinks their job is done???
The next time, I take her to a smaller shop that I thought might do a better job - called Best in Show. I explain again how I would
like her to be trimmed. WHen he calls to say she is done, I hope for the best. I get there and he tells me she really doesn't like the
face work. I say I kinda figured that and asked if she tried to bite. He said that it was no big deal, he has groomed worse. Turns out
the guy used to show dogs, which is where he got all of the experience. He brings her out and she looks so good! I mean she looks like
a completely different dog, but it's what I wanted. Yay!
So I need to get Eliza groomed again. I decided to take her back to Best in Show when I am in Dallas for the weekend. I dropped her off
this morning and made sure to tell the guy that she hates the face work again. I said the usual "Schnauzer Face" and all over trim. I
felt kinda bad trimming her now while it is still cold outside, but it's not like she's outside all the time anyway. Well I go back to
pick her up and he has done a great job again - though the cut was a bit different from last time. I guess saying "face" wasn't the
best, but it looks pretty good, even with a Schnauzer like mask. =)
After meeting Brittney for lunch we were in my car playing with Maddy and Eliza. Since Eliza just got a trim, she looks so pretty
compared to poor Maddy. Maddy's kinda gross. I offer to watch Maddy until tonight and say I'll give her a bath. Maddy needs the
exercise and Matt was planning on riding bikes with Oscar anyhow. I give Maddy a bath - which she was not too happy about.
But then I decided that what Maddy really needs is a haircut! I know that Eliza will never in a million years let me trim her, but
Maddy is more easy going. I dry her off and comb her fur out, then grab the trimmers. I use a 7/8" guard and go to town. Maddy is not
thrilled about the clippers, but she doesn't put up much resistance.
I get most of her trimmed, though it is way harder than I had imagined it would be. Her tail looks a little silly at the moment,
but it should keep Brittney happy until she has a chance to take her to a real groomer. We'll see if she even notices. =)
CSI: Eliza
Thursday, February 8, 2007
Sometimes I come home and I know my dog has done something bad. How do I know? Sometimes the something is right in front of me and
it is quite obvious. Other times she leaves me clues to what she has done and where the scene of the crime might be. Today was one
of those instances.
What could these little chewed up pieces of black plastic be? Surely I did not put these pieces of plastic there. Even if I did, I
am fairly sure I have not resorted to chewing plastic - at least not plastic that isn't a pen cap. =) I wander toward the back of
the apartment - the likely scene of carnage.
I find these bodies waiting in the hall. A scene of a true massacre. Why else would Big frog, Little frog and White bear be
hanging out lifeless in the hallway? The fact that these three are together and not torn up does not bode well for my personal
belongings. I see the bedroom door is partially open - eerily similiar to many horror movies. I walk into the bedroom.
Nice. Glad I wasn't actually using that CD case. The bed is also torn up, with the sheets all piled up on one side of the bed. She's
been doing that alot lately. If I was a dog I would calmy lay on the sheets, not blow through them like a hurricane! My dog is so
weird. Take for instance last night...
I get home from bowling and walk in the door. Eliza is prone across the couch wagging her tail like she knows she is in trouble. I
look down. There are pieces of a grocery sack everywhere. She has meticulously shredded the sucker. But what is this? Big clumps of
dog hair everywhere. What's this white stuff holding it together? Soap??? The smell of Irish SPring soap is everywhere. I pick up the
soggy pieces wondering what exactly has happened here.
These look like Natalie hairs. And Matt bathed Natalie the night before - though certainly not with Irish Spring Soap. Eliza looks as
guilty as sin. I pet on her, and notice the strong scent of Irish SPring coming from her when she pants. Did she eat the soap and these
are hairballs? Her fur is matted with soap in places, especially her left side and beard. Did she get the soap stuck to her? I still
have no idea and she's not fessing up. I'm taking her to get groomed on Saturday - the guy can just wet her down and scrub, she's
already got the soap on...
Happy Birthday Dad!
Wednesday, February 7, 2007
That's right, there's a birthday that comes a month after mine - my wonderful father-in-law. He lurks around here leaving comments
every now and then - known as the Pop Hoyt. Anyhow, today is his birthday and he should be congratulated for all the birthdays he has
had so far - especially considering the two boys he raised! Hope you have a good birthday dad! Also if you want birthday baked goods,
just let me know what you want. I'm sure I can manage to swing almost whatever you want - it just won't be on your actual birthday!
Now on to the comments left by my dear sister in law (man it's the day on in-laws - good thing I like mine!) There is a very good
reason why I don't care about the Chevron hat. You can buy one and wear it all you want. This is why I don't care:
Yup, those are all mine and I use pretty much all of them. And yes Matt harasses me all the time for carrying a bag to work that
has a big Shell emblem on it. Free? Why yes all of that stuff was! =)
Stop Complaining!
Monday, February 5, 2007
After all the complaints I got on the last blog, I am going to keep this one short and sweet - and hopefully unoffensive. Matt came in
for the weekend Saturday night. We hung out all weekend and after work today like real married people. We went to Target to find clothes
for me - but only he got clothes. And he bought a hat...
Oh he thinks he is hilarious! Truth be told, I told him to get it - it really is a cool hat (and only $4!) He's threatening to wear it
next time he meets me for lunch at work. We are weird, that's probably why we get along so well! =)
That's too Cheap!
Saturday, February 3, 2007
Matt's friends, Justin and Mark, have a friend who is getting married in Houston this weekend. They were, of course, welcome to stay
with me. They got in a bit late last night because of an accident near Dallas, so we decided to get dinner when they got in. I wanted
to take them somewhere cool, so I thought Captain Tom's would be fun. I wasn't sure if it was still open, but of course it was still
packed. Yay! Justin got to try Matt's spicy drink they are famous for and they both liked the food. Of course that was two fried
catfish for me in one week, but whatever!
This morning we had some homemade cinnamon rolls I had whipped up last night. They were SO good! Justin was so in love with the
frosting - I totally won the guys over (as if they weren't already...) After sitting around trying to decide what to do I told them
that if they had no ideas I was going to make them go bowling. So that is what we did. There were no lanes left at my league alley
because all these kids were having birthday parties. Punk kids! =) Then we tried the lanes by work - they were practically deserted.
Sweet!
Turns out we all bowl with the same weight ball - 12 pounds - which means they can throw theirs a heck of a lot faster than I can. I
think they were expecting me to beat them soundly, but I am not that good yet. I managed to sneak a win (117) in on the first game
with both of them trailing very slightly behind. Then the second game Mark was killing the two of us - I managed to pull out with a
131 win. The third game I lost. I might have beaten Justin if I had not flubbed the last bowl - all I needed was six pins after that
10th frame spare, but I guttered it. Jeez! I pulled off a 118 though, so at least I got my average. Though I did learn why people
keep a towel on hand. A bit of oil got on my thumb-hole and I totally dropped the ball into the gutter. I then picked the ball up and
almost did it again. Luckily I grabbed it before it fell and dried it off on my shirt. Whew!
Then we went to get a "light" lunch at the 59 diner. Once again the guys made me choose and I decided to go somewhere new. The place
was really cool and the menu was stuffed full of good stuff. I planned on getting a grilled cheese if they had it and it was on the
menu! But it was on jalapeno cheese bread - I wasn't so sure of that. But then I saw the Frito Pie. Oh that sounded good - cheese and
onions on top! So I ordered that:
So much for the light lunch - the thing was huge!
I Want to Wrap my Car!
Thursday, February 1, 2007
There is a place in Houston that wraps cars. Not like when you are in highschool and you saran wrap your boyfriends car or anything.
They take a design - usually an asvertisement - and print it on vinyl which they then affix to your car. I want it. A car at the
apartment got wrapped and I am so jealous. I mean theirs is an ad for some driving school, but I don't especially want an ad. I just
want my car wrapped! I told Matt and he thinks it would be too flashy. He asked what I would even wrap on it, and I wasn't sure. I said
maybe some geology stuff - which led him to call me a nerd. Then I thought it would be easier if someone would just pay for an ad to
put there.
Then it dawned on me! I could get a Mountain Dew wrap! Oh how cool would that be??? All black and bright green and Doing the Dew! If
I could get them to pay for it - I would totally drive it around. I mean if it didn't cost too much I would pay for it, but I doubt
it is cheap. Anyhow Matt is skeptical that the CR-V is the right car to wrap. I think it would look cool. He thinks that the CR-V would
look good wrapped in white. But it's already white... so not cool.
In other odd news, I watched an episode of Alton Brown the other day where he was showcasing popcorn. I forgave him for dissing my
popcorn popper because he obviously doesn't understand how awesome it is. It's ok Alton, you can still be my hero. Anyhow, he's making
popcorn, then "slacker jacks", then at the very end talks about how popcorn was the original cereal. He puts some in a bowl, pours
milk over it, sprinkles it with sugar and eats it. Matt and I look at each other with odd looks on our faces. We are both thinking
"Gross!" Matt then says "You are going to try that aren't you?" Well heck yeah I am!
Uh yeah it was good. Milk deflates popcorn like you wouldn't believe, but it's quite tasty. If you try it, use home popped corn and
don't base your opinion on the first bite. I liked it enough I had a second bowl. It probably won't replace my morning cereal due to
the kernels getting stuck in the teeth, but I am certainly spoiling my kids (when I have them) with this!
