The Really Old Stuff

This is from my very first website my sophmore year of college. I did the blogging thing for awhile just so my friends and family knew what I was up to. I was really good at writing at first, but then slacked off... But it's good for historical sake, right?

Up to September 19, 2001

Well I think that everyone knows the basis of what happened last week. But what you didn't know is that I have collected a newspaper from every day so far. Some of the papers were *borrowed* from the lounge, but hopefully no one has missed them. Matt hopes there are no more national tragedies, or my apartment will be a fire hazard. I just assumed this is going to be in the history books, and someday when my kids ask me about it, I can whip out my newspapers.

I went to a gun range last Saturday. I am so awesome; I can even shoot a gun very accurately. Matt drew a circle (not a big one either) on the paper and told me to aim at it. My first bullet went straight through the middle. I then turned around and innocently asked "That circle?" Of course the rest of the clip went through the circle too. I so rock! Of course one of the bullets got revenge, but I don't let it bring my spirits down, just hope for no permanent scars :)

Friday, Lynn and I went to Trees, boy what a night! Right inside the door, my knife gets confiscated (he gave it back when we left). But when I told him why I had it, he made sure there was always a bouncer near us. Kinda nice having a bodyguard for the evening! The bands were good, but talking to them was more fun than listening, more interactive I'd say. Lynn is still mad because I could get free drinks from the guy and she couldn't. Love ya babe, but you gotta know how to "work it" (not like I do...!)

September 19, 2001

I wish I had more sleep last night. Going to see the Rangers play tonight (God bless America and baseball...its dollar hotdog night!) But I still need to be studying, how do I get SO behind every semester???

September 20, 2001

The baseball game was awesome, we won 10-4, take that Oakland! One of players hit his first home run ever, then a few innings later, he hit his second. Woohoo! I only have one complaint with the Ballpark, and that is the fact they had no dill relish for my dollar hot dogs, they had four bins of sweet relish, but NO dill! That and Bob doesn't understand why they put two women's restrooms right next to each other, might have helped to look at the sign.....

September 22, 2001

The SAE party last night was definitely entertaining. Personally I didn't have anything to drink, but that fact didn't seem to hold anyone else back... Heather, Tony and I had fun trying to teach some very white guys how to dance. Laughter ensued. Some people had too much to drink and tried to walk. Laughter ensued. I stayed over there until about 2:30 this morning, then I tried to find someone to take me to IHOP, but for some reason none of my normal friends were still up. Go figure! Well, headed back to Weatherford sometime today, which means two things: 1. Get to see parents. 2. Get money. (The two are, of course, not related)

September 23, 2001

I miss my parents. Spent all night talking to them instead of the people who were having a party. Didn't really do much yesterday, so this update is really short, but I'm working on a new design for my page :)

September 25, 2001

Had to get up at 6 in the morning for a SA meeting, but I went to bed at about 1:30, so I am very tired. Went to another meeting at 8:30, then managed to sleep for an hour. Had my Dinosaurs test today, I'm pretty sure I aced it. Chemistry is tomorrow, and I really should be studying right now! Calculus is Friday, but that one isn't worrying me too much. I feel very ill, I really hope this isn't a relapse of pneumonia. I'm just so busy I don't have time to think about getting sick. Let's see how well the power of my mind can overcome an illness.........

September 26, 2001

Well I didn't bomb the chem test exactly, but I doubt I'll be getting a 100. Oh well, sleep was definitely what I needed last night. Besides, our final replaces our lowest test grade, so I'm not too out of luck. Alright back to scanning more pictures!

September 27, 2001

Matt came over last night and I showed him around the campus. Amazingly enough we didn't run into anybody I knew (except at Taco Bueno....Z-Baby!!) but he saw an old friend from high school. That's just not right! My school? He finds friends. I swear he could meet somebody anywhere we went.

Also he suffered through a few more games, notice that the score of 2 went back down to 1. Someone has something against pity. I'm still scanning pictures like crazy, I've almost filled up a 1.44MB disk. That's alot of pictures. Heather isn't real happy about some of the ones containing her, but they are so cute! I'm feeling much better today and I am convinced it is either allergies or a head cold...NOT a relapse, hopefully! Oh yeah... Calculus Test tomorrow!!! (scary music ensues) I will get an A! I will get an A!

October 1, 2001

Wow, four whole days since my last update. Well, understandably I didn't feel like updating last Friday. Needless to say my "I will get an A" mantra didn't work too well. Not sure what the grade is exactly, but I'm sure it's not that good. But Mom was there to lend some motherly support, and take me to lunch so I cheered up rather quickly. (Love you Mom!)

Then Matt and I went to the rodeo Friday night, and while I may agree that calf roping isn't exactly nice, it certainly doesn't have any lingering effects. Saturday I spent most of my time at the Sounds of Class Carnival. And yes, in case you hadn't heard, I lost my knife somewhere. I spent about an hour looking for it in the dark, but no luck. Me very sad! :(

Dad, in case you are reading this, I did spend some time studying this weekend! And also I helped Matt win two games of pool (he couldn't have done it without me) and kicked around a soccer ball a bit. Oh well this week only has 2 quizzes, 1 paper due, and 1 test, so I shouldn't keel over and die like last week.

October 2, 2001

Spent about 2 hours in Old Navy last night shopping for new clothes. It was fun, and only cost about $75 for a ton of new clothes. The bad news is that most of the shirts are long sleeved, so I can't wear them until it gets much colder outside. So everybody pray with me for winter to get here now!

October 4, 2001

I get ribs tonight! I get ribs tonight! I get ribs tonight! I also get queso! Queso and Ribs! Queso and Ribs! Ok, my stomach doesn't always talk for me, but in the case of Two Rows, it's really hard to control the cravings. :)

October 8, 2001

It has occurred to me that I have somewhat been able to control how often I leave little messages for my rapt audience. Probably due to the lack of a rapt audience. But I know I have a couple of people out there who care, they really do care, so I will try to be somewhat faithful.

This weekend was actually pretty slow. Went to the CV barbeque, but didn't stay for that long. Went with Matt to a party somewhere in Plano. And yes, DAD, I did do homework this weekend, three days worth actually! By the way, who was praying with me for this great weather, because it worked! Or maybe it was just me, if that's the case.....I Rock!

October 10, 2001

Is it just me, or are we really lucky to have a Texan in the Presidential Office? G-dub apparently got on to some of the top brass in congress for leaking confidential information to the press, and was talking to them in a very 'un-presidential manner!' Don't you just know he was blistering their ears??? I don't understand why the media would even televise or print the information, because it endangers our troops that are headed in, I mean hello?? Other than that, not much going on here. I was a waiter for the first time and got a $2 tip. I so rock!

10-11-01

Look it's another palindrome number! Last night the power went out when I was reading my book for class, I was very upset. Not as upset as Heather, Beau and Deran were due to the fact they were all typing papers due today. I think I actually heard Beau's reaction all the way in our apartment.

It worked out alright; the power came on like 2 hours later. But while it was off, we had fun making torches out of plastic cups filled with Everclear and generally just burning a bunch of Everclear. Now why is it that Waterview won't let us have candles? The neighbors kept fooling me into thinking the power was back on with their million watt flashlight.

It's great that these are the days I'm gonna tell my children about when they ask about college. Then again it might give them ideas.....hmm maybe I'll just tell them about the flashlight. (Thursday night, but I think I might actually be able to eat somewhere besides Two Rows, but you gotta love ribs and queso!)

October 12, 2001

Today I found out my dog died in her sleep sometime Wednesday night. Needless to say this was more than very upsetting. Sheba was like a member of the family to all of us and she will be missed greatly. She was the first pet I ever had, and we had great times together. I remember obedience classes where Sheba and I always had to do extra laps around the building because she wasn't behaving. I would sit her down for a little chat and she would give me a look like she would never do it again...honest! 10 minutes later we would be walking around the building again.

When I was little, Sheba must have felt tortured. We would let our hamsters crawl on her, play dress up with her; I think she was even a horsey once or twice. But Sheba would never nip at us, or even try and run away. She was the best dog a kid could ask for or even a teenager. Last year I had to leave her at home because Waterview's pet deposit was $200, and I couldn't afford it. Every time I came home she would be a little bit older and slower, but she would still get up and play with me. I always worried she would be gone one time when I came home, and today that happened. I think the worst thing was not being able to say goodbye.

October 15, 2001

Ok, long busy weekend. Got my X-rays Friday, cross your fingers on the news. Then drove down to the retreat with mom and Heather. The retreat was interesting to say the least. Never play the clothing game with a bunch of guys, that's all I am going to say about that.

We went to the State Fair yesterday, and it was the first time I had ever been. We got a bunch of pictures, I'll post any good ones up later. Here is the list of what all got eaten : Corny Dog, Nachos Grande, Tamales, Funnel Cake, Cotton Candy, Crawdad Sausage (Sorta), Pizza, Frito Pie, Cinnamon Roll, and numerous Beverages. We actually rode the Texas Star; it was pretty high up there, but really cool. Too bad we had two fatalists in our car screaming out at the first sign of shaking or rust. (And no, it wasn't the girls!)

We also saw the car shows, the Marine Drum and Bugle Corp, and a bunch of weirdly dressed people doing funny dances. Almost as funny were the impersonations done by Matt and Justin. All in all it was a fun day with a LOT of walking. My feet were killing me by the end of the day, but I would say it was definitely worth it.

October 16, 2001

Too many tests this week! Only two really, but it's Dinosaurs and Chemistry. I've been studying like a mad dog, so that would be the reason this update is gonna be super short!

October 18, 2001

Went with Matt to his parent's house last night. I swear I have forgotten what a real home cooked meal tastes like. It was fun, especially when the three adults there started playing with all of Matt's old transformers. Ok to be fair, I'm not sure how much Joanna, Matt and Oscar count as adults, but age wise, they should. Dinosaur test starts in about a half hour.....golly I can't wait! Then Chemistry tomorrow and Calculus next week. Why can't I be digging up bones this weekend instead??

October 19, 2001

Can you believe it's been five months since I was the Hot Stairs girl, and five months since graduation Lynn and Justin? Well time really does fly when you are having fun I guess. Can't believe we are already past the 8 week mark in school, doesn't that mean I should be studying more and more often.....oh wait, I am! Going home today to spend time with the parents, they really do miss me you know. Then tomorrow get to carve pumpkins and maybe watch scary movies.....yay! :) 7 days until dinosaurs!

October 22, 2001

There is something inherently nice about getting enough sleep. I didn't get enough on any night this weekend and last night was no exception. I was up till 3 over at the guys talking to poor Pat who's birthday was yesterday. Just turned 21....

Friday night I got to carve pumpkins with my dear friend Matt. They both look totally awesome, and we got some picture, hopefully get them posted sometime this week, depends on when Matt gets them developed you know. But that roll of film also has the state fair pictures on it, so I know you are waiting in suspense with me!

Anyways, went to the Air Show Saturday, my new goal in life is to be a pilot and learn how to fly like that. (Mom, Dad : Don't worry, probably gonna be a long time from now!) The Blue Angels were beyond awesome, not only were they perfect in every formation, they flew at each other at breakneck speeds only to turn sideways at the very last second (not minute Tony, I know that isn't as impressive). We also had the joy of sitting in traffic for a good hour, then had to wait for Matt to get through the line at the ATM, which took another good hour or so. But the Red Barons were trying to spell my name the whole time. Even though they kept messing up on the N I forgave them because they drew me a heart to make up for their lack of skills with the N. :)

October 23, 2001

Just registered for all of my classes, knowing I'm going to hate almost every single one. That really makes coming to college worth the time, don't you think? I have a Calculus test at 7 tomorrow night, and guess what I'll be doing all night! Friday is the day I leave for Big Bend, did I mention it's a 10 hour drive? Long long long long long time. And we are taking the University's vans, which is bad, because I've become accustomed to chartered buses due to NSP. Oh well, I suppose I'll live. I've got my bag almost packed, though it has occurred to me my bag is really friggin heavy! I am gonna either die or have some massive shoulders after this is over. Well, off to my dinosaur's class, to go learn about Sauropods, or was it Therapods? Oh who cares anyways?

October 30, 2001

Sore, very very sore. Burned, very very burned. Needless to say my weekend wasn't exactly a relaxing vacation away from school. I had one of those vacations you need a vacation right after. Have a test tomorrow night so I can go to a concert with Matt Thursday night. Makes my priorities sound absolutely wonderful, doesn't it? I have a bit of catch up too due to missing two full days of school, so I am sooooo looking forward to this weekend for a break!

November 1, 2001

Well that Halloween pretty much sucked. I didn't do anything but go take my History test early so I can go to the Live concert with Matt tonight. Then I came home, putzed around a bit then went to bed at 10ish. I feel like yesterday was a total waste of Halloween. Why isn't it postponed until the weekend if it falls during the middle of the week?

Still feeling a bit of the pain from the Big Bend trip. My right arm is incapable of unbending all the way. I am assuming this is a later gift from the pick ax who I now hate with a passion. Don't think we have a very healthy relationship. Oh well. Going to dinner with Mom and Dad tomorrow, then spending the weekend at home. Relaxation after last weekend's hard labor.

November 2, 2001

The Live concert last night was pretty cool. Well at least the band and the music were. The annoying girls in front of us were, well, annoying. And one had one of those stupid spike bracelets and kept scratching the hell out of my arm. Justin and Debbie kept telling me to say something, but I didn't want to be mean to someone who was about 4'6". Seriously.

Let's see, what else? Oh the two girls kissing, everyone smoking non-legal substances, people trying to crowd surf and getting dropped (one of the annoying girls), two guys fighting over a drumstick for like 5 minutes, and of course the complete and utter lack of personal space.

No don't make the assumption it was a terrible evening, it wasn't. Most everything that is bad makes an evening more memorable. It was a good concert, just don't all the people that were there. Oh well. Needless to say I got back home pretty late, I'm tired, which means Matt is probably exhausted. Poor guy.

November 6, 2001

There haven't been any updates for a few days because the server for my webpage was down. Now how sad is that? Wanting to do an update, but not being able to! Boohoo.... In other news, school is going good, only about 4 weeks left of it though. Then winter break! I can't wait for the holidays, that's when I get to sleep in, not do homework, and see all my family.

This weekend was a very relaxing one, didn't do much. Went out to dinner with my parents, Matt, and Heather Friday night. Stupid chocolate cake and cheesecake! Then Saturday I hung out at the home, spent time with Grandma and her geese, after spending a couple of hours hunting for a Cotton Candy maker for Matt. He loves it, so it was worth it! Sunday I went to church :) then Heather and I met Matt and Justin at Tommy's for lunch.

November 7, 2001

I went and saw Monster Inc. the other day, it was hilarious! Kid's movies these days have so much humor directed at adults that kids just don't get. The kids at day care this summer were always looking at me funny cause I would laugh at the stuff they didn't think was all THAT funny. Little did they know.....

But anyways, I think I am still sick. I don't like this one bit and think that I should be better NOW! How bout it immune system? Are you gonna co-operate or is this going to get real ugly??

November 8, 2001

Made some yummy soup last night and a pumpkin pie. The Beau has the audacity to ask with shock that I cook? How rude is that? And if you had to save only eight people on a spaceship to Mars, would you save the useless attractive nutritionist? Every single guy in our class did. Attractiveness does not equal usefulness. Me? I even killed off the geologists because they had two kids, and I didn't want the kids. It's really not right to split up a family you know...

Ed Note: I cannot believe I killed off the geologists!!! This was obviously the time period I wanted to be an art major!

November 13, 2001

Yeah I know you think I have forgotten about you, but that is not so. The stupid website has been acting weird, and I just haven't had the time to mess with it. I am going to Antigua for spring break, and that is pretty much what I have spent my internet time looking up. It's gonna cost me about $562, which for 9 days is not a bad thing at all. My goal now is to get in shape for the trip, because it gives me a goal, and I have a feeling we might be doing some hiking through a rainforest, and I don't want to fall behind! Woohooo, can't wait! Only 3 and 1/2 months away!

November 14, 2001

Well yesterday was certainly a busy day, I had like 4 meetings to go to, one of which I was conned into. Why in the world would I need to go to a biology meeting? And the lady told Katie and me that we didn't seem very interested in attending a chiropractic school......hmmm wonder why that is? Then Deran stole our butter to make brownies and I got to lick the pan and the bowl, because he forgot to grease the pan, lots of gooey chocolate for me! I'm about to eat my cooked brownie right now, oh the anticipation is horrible! Wait, no Wonderful!

November 29, 2001

Well finally the stupid webpage server is up and running again. But so much has happened that it would be really hard to sum it up in a short clip of words. Needless to say I am very happy that Matt did not lose his job and is in fact moving over here for his new job! YAY!!!! Well I am now officially addicted to Quest...again. I love that game!

December 4, 2001

So we are into December already, but I don't think I am going to move November anywhere due to it's lack of length. I finally beat Quest, and then promptly went on to the second game, which I am doing pretty good in, with no hints or cheats of any kind. Matt is really starting to feel a bit deprived and ignored. He's just jealous because he didn't beat the game.

He found an apartment over here this weekend, and it's really close to me and even closer to the mall. It's a cute little place, even though he hates the fireplace, I think it's cute. He's moving in this weekend, and I'll be helping, as soon as I finish my calculus final on Saturday that is. Yes you read that right, it's on a Saturday! But less than a week and a half left of school then three gloriously long weeks of break. I am soooo looking forward to my little vacation. And so what if I don't get to do cool stuff like skiing, I'll still be having fun not doing homework!

December 5, 2001

I will beat Quest II, I will beat Quest II..... Not only that, I will get ribs and queso tomorrow, oh yes I will. I think, I hope, I beg Matt! Heehee.... Last day of class is tomorrow, I think this semester just flew by, but then again it seemed to drag earlier, so I guess it all equals out.

December 6, 2001

I would just like to say that I don't like traffic. I do, however, like sleeping, but am unfortunately too far away from my bed to do any of that. :( It's alright though; my bed waits patiently for me to come home every day. If I had a bad day it will always be there to let me curl up on it and just sleep my cares away. No wonder it's so hard to buy a new bed. You aren't just buying a bed; you're buying a relationship, a friend that will always be there. I want a bigger friend, but I am afraid that if I leave my bed now it will feel abandoned. Oh the joys and pains of friendships!

December 12, 2001

Finals week is almost over. Only one more paper and one more final. I think I've done good so far, Chemistry only took me two hours this morning, and I only didn't know one thing. Stupid Kinetic Energy of atoms racing through a space, albeit a confined one. I would also like to say that I CAN go grocery shopping, regardless of what my sister says! Honestly, who doesn't like pigs in a blanket except her weirdo self???

January 14, 2002

Well I guess I can honestly say it has been forever since I have seen my webpage. I think I really didn't miss it all that much, but that was maybe because of the forced separation. Christmas break was really fun, but way too short. I am now 19, only one more year till I have to leave my teenage years. Well I don't have much time to spend pondering where all the years have gone :) I have more rearranging to do on my website. And the B&W pics will hopefully be scanned in and added on soon.

January 16, 2002

Happy Birthday Matt!!!!!!

January 28, 2002

Long weekend including the SAE party and beating everyone around at Halo. I really really love that game. If I had enough money I would buy me an X just to play Halo. Other than that, Matt was gone all weekend, so it was very easy to spend half of it sleeping. Don't look at me funny, Heather slept as much as I did! Either way I cleaned a bit to make sure the weekend was not totally wasted, and even repainted the number sign on our door. How cool am I?

February 18, 2002

I have somehow lost the ability to update my webpage every day like I used to. Needless to say I miss it, but then again I don't really. Recent events include: Getting mom and dad a new puppy. She's so darn cute! Has a very bad case of motion sickness though, even porch swings make her throw up. Grandpa died a month after my birthday. Still depressed about that, it was really the first person close to me I have had die. It was only about three weeks between the first bad symptoms and the end. It was really too fast to even get to see him more than one weekend. But I know he is better off, so that keeps me from being too sad. The funeral and viewing were sad, but I had my two best friends there to support me. Matt even bought a suit for the occasion.

Needless to say that next week had to have been the worst ever. I had four tests and interviews and just way too much stress when you are already not feeling all the way there. So this weekend was mostly a relief not to do anything, I think I'll just try to take it easy this week and not worry about the future. It will happen however it wants to, with or without me worrying about it.

February 25, 2002

It seems like I've been waiting forever to go to Antigua and it's only like 11 days away! I have so much to do before I go, including a new haircut. Everyone has to tell me they like it, even if it is horrible. And I also made Matt promise he can't dump me until it grows back, just in case. :) Dad's birthday was this weekend, he's getting old 54!!!!! I got him Meet the Parents. Seemed somewhat appropriate for him. Anyone who has met my dad would agree.

Saw Vanessa too before she went home, she was staying with grandma all this week and last week. Sophie is still the cutest baby in the world, and her and Babe were too cute together. If you have never seen a German Shepard puppy and a toddler fight over a pillow, you are missing out! Only like 11 weeks until my ring gets in, but maybe more if Matt doesn't get his butt in gear and call them about engraving it! Grrrrr......

The last of the PA interviews are this week, so wish me luck, and the more religious ones out there. Pray for me! And I start work at the Pub on Thursday afternoon, so stop by and see me!

February 27, 2002

Two entries in one week. This can only mean one thing: I'm skipping Calculus! Well I would have had to leave early, and Dr. Allum really doesn't like that. Mom and Dad's anniversary is today, so after my Dr's appointment I'm gonna drive the extra 20 minutes to go spend some time with them.

Not much exciting has happened since Monday. Oh wait! I got my hair cut! I chopped off like 7-8 inches and it looks so cute! One of my former bosses up here told me I look like a college girl. I was like...well I am! And I start work at the pub tomorrow, so Matt told me I was to ignore any and all guys that felt the need to hit on me due to my styling hair ;) I can't wait till I get it dyed red!

March 4, 2002

Spent yesterday afternoon drooling all over the Tacoma at the auto show. I am determined to get this truck in the next couple of years, no matter what. Matt even helped me formulate a plan. The first one included standing on street corners, but got shot down pretty quick. (joke)

He thinks I should just save a bit more and get a C5 instead. Realizing of course, that I could get two Tacoma's for this price I was quite un-agreeable. All that extra money will be going to my supercharger, Flowmaster, and extra off-roading accessories. Whenever I get it, this truck will be bad ass! (Forgive the word, parents!)

March 6, 2002

I'm off to Antigua tomorrow! I am so excited, I am so not ready, and in about 20 hours, I am so OUTTTA HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

March 20, 2002

Vacation was wonderful. Put up a page with some of the pictures, I'll add in some commentary later. I'll also put up my daily journal on here somewhere sooner or later. Just a bit busy this week with work, Ambassador Recruitment, and studying for a Calculus Test Friday. I have so many trips planned for the upcoming year that I am so glad I'm not going to be a PA. I guess God really does work in mysterious ways.....

March 25, 2002

Matt bought the new Tony Hawk skating game this weekend, and played it all the time. While it IS a fun game, enough is enough honey! If anyone knows about any self help groups for XBOX addiction, could they let me know when and where they meet?

April 1, 2002

I finally got my ring!!!! I spent all Sunday with Matt and his parents. Saturday night I went out with Christie and her family to D&B for her dad's birthday. Got these two huge M&M's to put on our couch next year. Friday night Justin, John, and I all went out to see Panic Room. I also discovered that the best thing to get at Two Rows is probably the ribs. Maybe I just need to stop eating queso before I get my meal. No room left for anything else!

April 11, 2002

Well I had a busy weekend. Mostly spent working on Justin's boat. I think we got more grease and oil on us than in the actual motor, but it was great finding out that Justin is more inept at motors than I am. Of course he isn't the one who managed to drop the plug into the bucket of drained oil! Most of the week has gone by fast, pretty much the standard for test weeks.

Finally got a paycheck, then proceeded to spend it all at Target. Just kidding, but sometimes it feels like it! They had the cutest plates there, but I actually resisted and didn't buy them. But if all you guys would like to make a charitable donation to the Jen likes those Plates fund, please feel free to send money at anytime!

Ed Note: Matt bought me the plates! He is so awesome, I still have the plates, but the cups and bowls didn't make it this long.

April 12, 2002

Just finished my Chem Test, stupid HNO3!!!! Other than that, I think I did pretty good, the acids were just a bonus anyway. Shut up Nick! (Don't ask) Going home this weekend, getting to spend time with my red headed sister :) Apparently I am going furniture shopping with my mom too. But I don't think the furniture is for me. But my parents need new furniture, it's like twice my age. Then next weekend it's back to Big Bend for some more Dinosaur digging, I'm going to try and find another piece of poo for Dr. Carter so he can fool people next year in Rocks and Minerals!

April 15, 2002

This weekend was fun. I got to spend time with my favorite people in Weatherford, especially Lauren and Katie. Parents, you don't count as in Weatherford people. Colby has gotten so big, and he's crawling all over the place. I don't know what she is going to do when he starts walking!

Also got some of the last things for camping this weekend. Matt said he went shopping for our camping trip in May, I think he's maybe a little excited that I am going with him... Either way Christie scared me into thinking it was going to rain this weekend, but the forecast is nice and sunny for the whole time. I may not especially like the desert is summer, but it's a welcome break in the earlier months. Either way, I'll wear sunscreen so Heather and I won't be burned at the same time!

April 25, 2002

Big Bend was great, nice weather for a change. Also didn't get sunburned, mostly just eaten by mosquitoes! If someone ever tells you that if you let them eat their fill they inject a neutralizer so it won't itch, DON'T BELIEVE THEM!!!!!! Going camping again in about two weeks, Matt and I are headed to the Ozarks! I'm even gonna try and catch dinner one night. (Fish of course!) No laughing, I've gone fishing before, and even caught some fishies! So everyone wish me luck, and let me know if you know any good spots in Arkansas!

May 1, 2002

Happy May to all! One more week of school left! Too bad it's a week full of finals. No worries, except Calculus. I will be studying all weekend, except for break for food and water. Showers are optional. That will also encourage people to stay back I can imagine! Good luck to all on finals!

July 7, 2002

Well, it's been a while since I have updated these pages. Finally managed to log onto it using my awesome DSL!!! Thank you SBC.... and all the guys who helped set it up. Just got back from Arkansas, so those pictures and the ones from the party will be up whenever they get developed and scanned in. For now, you guys will just have to settle for the pictures from Arkansas in May.

July 27, 2002

I think that the Homestead Editor has something against me. It only seems to work when I have a million other things to do and can't spend lots of time on it. Not that it matters, haven't done much since I updated last. Heather still hasn't developed the pictures, but I have Matt's scanner for whenever she does. Going to St. Louis next Wednesday for an Ambassador conference. Can't wait, we even get to fly instead of taking a bus like we did for the NODA conference up there. We're going to a 70's party, and while my outfit may be a tad 60's I'll still try to get a picture of it! Until then....

August 10, 2002

Started my new job Thursday. I really like being behind the counter a lot more than in front of it. Plus the pay raise doesn't hurt my ego any! Just got back from St.Louis this Sunday. It was a really cool trip and conference, but I can't get the pictures to load yet. Working on it.... Also went home for a day, saw Katie, Colby, and Jody. Really miss some people from there. Not so much the town in general though. If you guys are reading this, Love You and Miss You Mom And Dad!!

School is going.... hoping to graduate December 2003. Yeah I know what you're thinking, but really it's not that I don't like school, it's just that I've got so much to do and all this college is wasting precious time! Haven't decided on what I am going to do after I graduate, Astronaut is the final goal. Grandma is now calling me an Astronut, guess women just don't do that kind of thing in her mind. Especially her grand-daughter! Well she better stick around to see it. Matt's being his usual supportive but realistic self. He thinks I should join the Air Force Reserve to get some training on the resume, and he think it would help with NASA. That and the fact that every American should serve their country. Was a bit surprised that he didn't want me to do Marines, but according to him all the hot chicks are in the Air Force. I think it would be a kind of challenge I haven't had yet. That alone would be worth it, but I would really want to be a pilot if I signed up, but you know how those recruiters make lots of promises.....

October 28, 2002

One would think that somewhat frequent updates would be more than once a month. But factoring in how often people other than me visit this site, I'm really not feeling bad. Homecoming is finally over. No more running around like a crazy woman. All that is left is to write a report on what went well and what didn't. All that I know is some people were upset over the judging this year, but I really can't influence that any. You get people from off campus they aren't biased, but they don't know the organizations. You get people from on campus there is no way they aren't biased! I mean, how are you supposed to get around that? And you're left with me, the person who didn't especially agree with the winners, but didn't have a choice in the matter. Don't hate me, that's all I ask.

Next week, I'm going camping with my Field Geology class. Then sometime in November I'm getting my wisdom teeth out, so keep an eye out for a dumber me. (hee hee I spelled dumber wrong the first time) And then I'm going to Chicago in December to see Ben! Then camping with Matt after that, then Christmas, then New Year, and on to 2003! All of that information was just in case I don't get to update this, but hopefully I'll have more time now.

November 3, 2002

Take my advice and get your teeth cleaned more than once every 5 years. On the upside, I am a believer in going at least twice a year now, once was enough with the evil vibrating water pick thingie!!!

And if that wasn't enough, now my dentist wants me to use Listerine, that stuff if foul. And not fowl like the goose our dogs almost attacked, but really foul in the nasty eewww gross this hurts kinda way. Other than that, my field trip got postponed for two weekends, so I don't get to freeze to death just yet. I can't decide if I want to mess with the tent or just sleep in the car. I can't see one being any warmer than the other, and at least the car would be air-tight.

December 6, 2002

Got the wisdom teeth out, not too bad really. Only one more final left, and a ten page paper. It's almost over, but then again, so is my DSL. Today might be my last day with it. It's all so very sad you know. Why did I have to fall in love, only to be separated, course, I am dropping it for wireless. Someone has to be the cruel one in the relationship you know.

Going to go see Ben next Wednesday, and I think Chicago is going to be cooooooold! I'm taking two jackets, just in case. Then Matt and I are going camping sometime, as if it wasn't cold enough already. But whatever, it will be fun. Merry Christmas to everybody in case I don't see you! Everyone going to Washington next semester (Erin and Tim) keep in touch. Happy Holidays!!!

January 10, 2003

Got my internet back up and running, though technically I'm running it off of my neighbors. Which I will stop doing, of course, as soon as UTD gets its act together. Chicago was fun, no pictures yet, but there will be, I promise. Heather has them at the moment, I'll go get them when I take her season two of Buffy back. And get season three..... Well what do you expect me to do all weekend if Matt is skiing in Utah without me? Goofy boyfriend. Just pray he doesn't break anything, because nurse was NOT in the job description!

Oh Yeah ... I'm 20!!!!!!!!!!!!!

March 16, 2003

Just got back from our Spring Break trip, and it was fun! We spent most of the first day driving, and New Mexico does NOT know how to label roads, it took us forever to find our campsite. But turns out it was pretty nice secluded area. The only downside was that the nearest bathrooms were porta-potties. And they had no lights, just skylights. So after dark, I had to go in there with my headlamp. I was like "Don't look down, Don't look down!"

So the next day I drove the whole day. We got to the Grand Canyon before sunset. And surprise, surprise, there was snow all over the ground. We stopped and got some pictures. There was also a bunch of Indians selling trinkets on the side of the road. One had a sign saying "One for $6.50, Two for $15." Matt wouldn't let me take a picture of it though.

Anyways, we got up the next morning to see the sunrise. It was a bit chilly, but we got some great pictures. Later the same day we hiked about 800 ft down into the canyon. The trails were in the shadow of a cliff and were therefore extremely icy. I had a death grip on the side of the trail sometimes, because we were right on the edge. That and the trails were green from all the mule poop in them. Pretty bad! But the end of the trail had a gorgeous panorama to just look at. We had lunch, and took some pictures. And fed a bird the rest of my apple. We got a shot of the bird with the apple in his mouth, it was hilarious.

The next day we went to some old Indian Pueblos and looked around there for a while. Then we went to Meteor Crater. Matt and I destroyed the Earth, except when some old lady went "Oh no!" He promptly said "She did it!" Jerk!

So driving alot that day. We decided to take the scenic route through the mountains. Matt wanted to camp up there, but they were all closed due to the snow. So we kept driving looking for a campground, and they were all closed. Finally we get to this freaky town Show Low - it has signs everywhere for campgrounds, but there wasn't a single one. (It's already dark by the way.)

We just decide to drive another 2 hours to get to the campground we were originally going to. (I fell asleep on Matt, thank goodness he's a good night driver.) When we get there, it is closed to. So we finally give up and drive to a hotel - and SLEEP IN THE CAR!!!! It was not the most comfortable night, let me tell you. Then the next morning we start driving towards Rock Hound. We haven't had a shower yet, and my headband broke, so I just threw a bandanna around my head. Matt refers to me as a gansta all day.

Rock Hound was fun. I got lots of cool rocks, even though Matt and I disagree on what cool is. He went after all the pretty small rocks, and I was picking up useful bigger ones. So to punish me, Matt made us climb up to the top of the 'mountain,' except he was the one carrying all the rocks. Then we made it to our campsite in time that night. We stayed at Brantley Lake SP, even though we had to set up camp in the dark.

Then the next day we went to Carlsbad Caverns. We hiked down to the caves through the natural entrance, which was pretty cool. Then we took the elevator up for lunch, and back down again in time for the tour. Our tour guide was really cool. He was pretty funny too. But in any case we got to see the King's Palace and we all sat down and they turned all the lights off. It was the same with your eyes open or closed, just pitch black. Then Matt stands up on me and I was patting around trying to find him. Then they turned on an old gas lantern. I had a new respect for that brave cowboy who originally explored the cave. The only bad thing was the bats were in Mexico while we were there. That would have been cool to see them flying in the cave at sunset.

After that we decided to drive back, mainly because we both have midterms this week. Which means I really should be studying right now.

June 24, 2003

Finally got my site back. After the heartache of going to check it one day and it being gone!$!%^@, it is back! SO I'm done with Field Camp, which is an interesting story I may or may not relate soon. I'm living down in Houston working at NASA for the summer. I also got to go on a tour of Building 31 and see real moon rocks, albeit not the ones the interns at NASA stole last year. (Stupid interns) In any case, I'm staying alone down here so I am a bit bored, email me or call me. Email me if you don't know my number, I'm not going to leave it on here.

June 29, 2003

Long weekend with not much to do. The highlight of it was getting a new battery for my watch at Target. That and going to Waffle House by myself, thank you very much. I sat at the counter and watched the guys cooking. That probably isn't the wisest thing to do at Waffle House. I was about to complain about the chairs being so far back from the counter, but then I looked at the girth on the two guys next to me and saw the wisdom in it!

Finally moved my computer to where I'm not killing myself every time I try to play on it. Sitting on the floor was almost as bad as laying on the bed, both will give you a killer backache after awhile. Never thought I would say this, but looking forward to going back to work. I know, I'm a glutton for punishment, but is it really punishment if you enjoy it??

October 2, 2003

Ok so I haven't had time to fool around with my page for a while. And now a lot has happened, way too much to put here. The brick, in case you are wondering is eventually going in the ground at my school to become part of the University forever. Thankfully, that side is going down, but I haven't thought of something witty to put on the other real side yet.

But in any case, 71 more days until that day. That day I get to walk across that small stage, shake my Dean's hand and move on in life. Of course NSM doesn't have a dean right now, hopefully they find one soon. I'm in my new apartment, but won't be here too long, only until the end of the year. Looking for a place to stay after that if anyone has a room they would want to rent me for a month or two.

All is crazy busy, going up to Oklahoma this weekend for a friend's wedding. Next week is midterm week, but only have two tests and one paper since one test was postponed. I got an 80 on my Physics test, but that was the 2nd highest grade in the class, so I am not that upset. I also cut a limb off of Matt's tree in the backyard. This is after a weekend a while back of pulling vines out of the trees. I think the tree might have liked that better than my cutting off parts of it. In any case, the yard looks nice, minus the whole no grass thing.

Oh in other good news, I killed the rat that was terrorizing my apartment. I caught one in the trap (the trap that scared me every time I had to set it - 5 times!) Another one apparently ate the rat poison and died under the dishwasher, unnoticed until they finally came to patch up the hole. Heather was amazed I didn't smell it, but I don't think she realizes quite how many air fresheners I have in my apartment. It is either that or constantly have the place smell like curry - like the rest of the Little India that surrounds me. Anyways, back to putting up pictures, that is what everyone likes anyways!

November 21, 2003

So Mr. Paver never got around to going in the ground. He's actually in a box in Allie's office. It may be possible to put him in the ground at Matt's house, though, I'll have to check. n other news, I am graduating in 22 days. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I kept saying 22 days to everyone at work until they started saying before I did. Of course this also means that finals week is coming up. Next week is Thanksgiving, I'm giving thanks this year for not having my wisdom teeth out the day before.

Speaking of which, I went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned, and I have three 'problem' spots (CAVITIES!!!) that they are going to have to fix. Everything has to be fixed before I head off the southern part of the planet. Oh yeah, I'm going (well almost certain) to Antarctica in January. I will be here for my 21st, but I'll be missing Matt's 28th. I think he'll forgive me, though. Don't know what I'm doing after that, I will of course (not really that certain) post any news on my website.

January 5, 2004

My 21st birthday is in two days. I'm pretty excited about that. And I leave for Antarctica in a week, so that is even more exciting, yet somehow kinda nerve wracking too. Been busy with wedding stuff, including cutting paper for the invitations for the past hour or so. Mom and I also tried to find a MOB dress for her today. We had to stop at David's to get a petticoat for my dress anyways, so why not?

I really want to print out the invitations to start mailing them, but I need to do a few more things to finalize locations and such. I pretty much finished with the registries, if I have forgotten a salad turner (I have) then I'll make do without. Who knew picking out gifts for yourself could be so hard?

And by the way, for those of you who don't know, Matt is so not helpful. He keeps asking me if I'm going to have everything planned, but he is the one not doing anything. He has asked a total of one groom-man to be in the wedding. He hasn't called the preacher he wants, and I had to be the one to tell his dad he was wearing a tuxedo. Which surprised him, but he said it would be ok as long as my dad was wearing one. Watch them both disappear right after the ceremony to ditch the tuxes. (Kinda like Justin's dad did at Kristen's wedding.)

Anyhow, the planning is going, hopefully we will get everything done in time. If not, don't be too upset if the wedding cake looks suspiciously like it says Bob and Elizabeth, we might have stolen it!

May 4, 2004

Ok it seems a bit daunting to even begin to tell you what has happened in the past 4 months. I got back from Antarctica safely with many, many pictures that I haven't gotten through - we compiled everyone's onto a DVD. New Zealand was amazingly beautiful and I had a day to go explore it with my Kiwi friend, Huw and Aussie friend, Jo. Jo was exploring too because she was moving to Wellington as soon as we got back. The scenery almost made me want to stay and not go home, but not quite.

The two weeks I had before the wedding were a bit stressful, but everything turned out ok. The bachelorette party went great with my sister making us all matching shirts. We went to Joe's Crab Shack where they made me stand on a chair (in pink stilettos) and all the waiter's sang "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to me.

The bridal store messed up my dress three times and only had it right the day before the wedding - a bit stressful I might add. The rehearsal went well with the food filling the missing "Barbecue Hole" I'd formed in Antarctica.

And the actual wedding went great. Aside from being stuck in the bridal room while Matt got to go mingle I was happy. My sister had a surprise for me and one of my former teachers sang a song during the wedding - the preacher paused and just looked at me and I thought I was supposed to be saying something, then I realized what was going on.. phew!

Matt tried to put the ring on my finger early, but I don't think anyone else noticed - course I just told on him.

Reception also went well, I just didn't have enough time to talk to everyone, but I tried to at least say hi - my mom did great on the food, and the lady who made the cake earned her money with that yummy concoction.

Then off to the honeymoon which consisted of camping in Arkansas, first Eureka Springs, then Ouachita SP and Daisy SP. We went fishing, and I once again caught more fish than Matt, but his manhood can handle that thankfully.

Got back to the house to start trying to get all of our stuff to fit in the house. I got a week of house things before I started my new job at Matador Resources. I'm one of their summer interns, I just got to start early. They pay me good, but expect work in return, so I am never bored and always getting to learn something new. And people ask me why I did geology? Hmmph!

So that's the short version of life since the last entry. The kitchen and extra bedroom in the house are painted, Matt & I decided to share an office, I got a laptop, working on a garden in the backyard, and generally staying busy. We got a guinea pig last weekend and decided to keep him from being lonely by getting him a friend. So Pedro just got his cage mate, Red this morning. They seem to be getting along good, one little tussle but separating them for a while helped. They are the cutest little things though, and very friendly - albeit a bit skittish.
